Empower Women, One step at a time
Join us for the BSWA 45th Anniversary Power Walkathon
This year marks a monumental milestone: 45 years of Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid (BSWA) standing strong for women and children affected by domestic abuse. To celebrate this legacy, we’re inviting you to be part of something truly special—our virtual Power Walkathon. This isn’t just about walking; it’s about standing together to empower women, promote well-being, and make a difference.
How to Participate:
Our challenge is simple, yet meaningful: complete 45,000 steps or participate in 45 minutes of any activity you choose! Whether you enjoy the fresh, crisp air of an autumn walk, love dancing around your living room, or prefer something a little more unique like hula hooping—every move matters.
Make It Fun and Share Your Experience: We encourage you to get creative! Why not wear purple, BSWA’s signature color, and synonymous with the Suffragettes, to show your support? Or take it a step further and sport a purple wig or a quirky tutu! Share your journey on social media, tag your friends, and challenge them to join the cause too. The more people involved, the bigger the impact we can make.
Not into Exercise? No Problem! If physical activity isn’t your thing, there are still ways to support. Clear out your wardrobe and host a virtual sale of your preloved clothes, donating the profits to BSWA. Every effort counts, and every penny raised helps us continue providing life-saving services to women and children in need.
Why Your Participation Matters:
1 in 4 women in the UK will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives. Every minute, the police receive at least four calls related to domestic violence. That’s a devastating 2.4 million women suffering annually in silence, fear, or danger. BSWA exists to break that silence and offer hope. When you participate in this Power Walkathon, you’re not just moving your body; you’re helping to move the needle on the way domestic abuse is addressed. Each step or minute of activity symbolises hope for women and children who are rebuilding their lives. Together, we can make a powerful statement: no woman should ever feel alone.
The Power of Movement:
Physical activity isn’t just about fitness—it’s a powerful tool for mental health. Studies show that regular exercise can reduce symptoms of depression by 20–30%, help manage anxiety, and improve overall well-being. For the women and children BSWA supports, many of whom have experienced trauma, healing and recovery take time. The proceeds from this Power Walkathon will fund essential services such as safe housing in our refuges, and advocacy support, giving them the tools they need to begin that journey to taking their power back from their perpetrators.
Where Does Your Donation Go?
BSWA provides vital support services to over 6,000 women and children every year. Your participation in the Walkathon directly impacts our ability to:
- Offer refuge accommodation to those escaping abuse
- Provide tailored support for survivors of domestic abuse
- Run educational training sessions to prevent domestic violence in schools, the workplace and our communities
By joining us, you’re not just donating—you’re investing in brighter futures. You’re ensuring that women have a safe space to turn to when they need it most.
